Vintage Love

Vintage adds soul to a space and a warmth you just can't recreate no matter how many trips to Home Goods you take! This project's vintage details stole my heart and have me super excited for my upcoming girls trip to Lucketts Spring Market to shop for our next round of projects. Enjoy this one and come back for the next!

Hidden between busy Lee Highway and the skyscrapers of Rosslyn is the most adorable neighborhood of red brick condos on a quiet tree-lined street. Inside you'll find the cozy character of 1960's architecture, making you wish you had a drink to sit down and relax with!

That's exactly why this beautiful bar cart wall is the first thing you'll see! I love a bar cart - the organization, the functionality, the linear lines, the open space....all of it! And this inexpensive replica of a mid century bar cart was the perfect centerpiece for this client's shared dining/living room wall. As we had plans for a gallery wall on an adjacent wall, I wanted to do something different and more dimensional for this space. While there were shelves in place, they were too small and rustic for the new decor. To brighten things up, I found these inexpensive marble shelves and paired them with brass brackets. Styled with a mix of artwork, vintage details, and a touch of green, this wall does exactly as we had planned - distracts you while you pour a drink:)

While my love for the bar cart runs deep, my favorite space in this project has to be the dining room! The original intention was not to replace the existing rectangular table and chairs, but once I shared my thoughts on a round table there was no turning back. And I could not be more pleased with this find - it was made to order with a gorgeous barn wood top and metal hairpin legs. It can comfortably sit 4 but can definitely squeeze in 6 for an intimate dinner party. And these chairs - they are stunning, comfortable, and can even withstand the occasional red wine drip! To ground the space, we added a round jute rug and paired vintage mid century candle sconces with a large black/gold vintage mirror.

While most of the living room furniture was in place, we added vintage touches throughout the space to create a cohesive design across the open floor plan, and soften the existing pieces. And while its tough to beat the grace these ivory ruffle drapes bring to the space, the vintage plant stand, mercury glass knobs, velvet throw pillows, and gold bamboo cocktail table make a strong case! That said, the vintage pharmaceutical mortars from the client's pharmacist father are pretty amazing.

As you may know, I never forget an entryway! To bring this cabinet table into the mix, I spray painted the drawer pulls gold and we added a framed map of NYC to remind the client that she'll always have her time in they city with her - but we are glad she is back in DC! We finished the space with a new marble lamp and vintage brass planter.

In the kitchen we made small changes with a sheer drape shade, gold framed bulletin board, gold painted drawer pulls, and a vintage pineapple mail holder.

For the bedroom, we repurposed art from other spaces in the home and added our final touch of vintage love (mudcloth pillows & antique mini mirrors) with a kiss from present day (boho curtains & Moroccan wedding blanket).
